The Basilica of Saint Hermes is located in Ronse, in the province of East Flanders in Belgium.
The reason for the elevation to basilica status is the presence of the relics of Saint Hermes since July 6, 860, and the so-called Fiertelommegang which has been held since 1090, during which the relics are paraded around the city. This Fiertelommegang is 32 km long and takes place on Trinity Sunday. The shrine containing the relics dates from 1584 and the embroidery is from 1637. Saint Hermes is venerated for the mentally ill.
The elevation to basilica status took place on February 2, 2019. The church itself has been a protected monument since 1936.
The sword and the palm branch refer to the martyrdom and victory of Saint Hermes, and the chained devil symbolizes his veneration in Ronse against the power of evil.
