At the intersection of Werbeekstraat and Turnhoutsebaan, stands the protected chapel of Our Lady of the Snow. To trace the origin of this chapel, we have to go back to January 16, 1645. Willem Verreyt, a traveling salesman, saw a small statue of Mary lying on a small elevation in the heath. Although it was snowing, the statue was not wet. The good man placed the statue in his luggage and continued his journey. Along the way, he was accosted and shot at by two soldiers. The traveling salesman escaped with his life and attributed his salvation to a divine intervention. A few weeks later, he placed the statue in a tree stump in Werbeek. Pilgrims flocked to it and received favors and healings. Sufficient reasons to build a wooden chapel for the statue, which was already replaced in 1665 by the stone example that still stands there today. Four stained glass windows depict the experiences of Willem Verreyt.
