De Buylaers is a unique piece of nature within the built-up core of Lokeren, barely a ten-minute walk from the actual city center! After all, this nature reserve of 20 ha is located on the left bank of the Durme, opposite the urban swimming pool and the Sportlaan. The lakes along the Durme have largely retained their historic appearance here with few plantings in the plain, beautiful moist hay meadows and a number of reed beds. The spontaneously wild Lost Forest with its drifting dune relics also defines this nature reserve.
