De Buylaers is een unieke brok natuur binnen de bebouwde kern van Lokeren, op nauwelijks tien minuten wandelen van het eigenlijke stadscentrum! Dit natuurgebied van 20 ha is immers gelegen op de linkeroever van de Durme, tegenover het stedelijk zwembad en de Sportlaan. De meersen langs de Durme hebben hier grotendeels hun historisch uitzicht behouden met weinig beplantingen in de vlakte, fraaie vochtige hooilanden en daarnaast een aantal rietveldjes. Het spontaan verwilderend Verloren Bos met zijn stuifduinrelicten paalt eveneens aan dit natuurgebied.
