De Buylaers è un pezzo unico di natura all'interno del nucleo edificato di Lokeren, a meno di dieci minuti a piedi dal vero centro città! Questa area naturale di 20 ha si trova infatti sulla riva sinistra della Durme, di fronte alla piscina comunale e alla Sportlaan. Le zone umide lungo la Durme hanno in gran parte mantenuto il loro aspetto storico con poche piantagioni nella pianura, splendidi prati umidi e, inoltre, un numero di paludi di canne. La selvaggia Foresta Perduta, con i suoi relitti di dune, confina anch'essa con quest'area naturale.
