At the height of the row of houses along the Damse Vaart, Tijl Uilenspiegel holds up a mirror to us in the sculpture group by Jef Claerhout. The artwork was unveiled in 1979 and commemorates Charles de Coster, author of the Uilenspiegel epic, who died 100 years earlier.
Owls watch with interest, dressed-up frogs are pompously croaking, hawks are keeping watch, and at the end of the row, Uilenspiegel's little donkey is being flirtatious.
