In the hustle and bustle, the Oosthoekplein with its right-angled houses is almost the only one that has retained the atmosphere of the countryside. Mother Siska managed to establish a dynasty here with her waffles, not far from the mill where the painter Félix Labisse once lived. The Siska family's empire expanded since then, but still left room for valuable vassals such as the 'Hof van Vlaanderen' with its large terrace, the fruit trader Castel, the restaurant 'La Sapinière', the Bistro de la Mer of the Brussels restaurant monument Jef Deglas, the quality house 'De Oosthoek' and a real Flemish bistro of yesteryear, 'The Four Ways', which has been turned into a Wine Bar. The strength of Oosthoekplein lies in the fact that it has managed to defy the years without giving up its rural character. As a result, the Oosthoekplein may have more visitors than the famous Albertplein in Knokke, but it is precisely the rural aspect that absorbs any busy nuisance.
