The building, which originally served as a farm, was converted into a rectory by Jan Frans de Coudenhove, the owner and resident of the castle Ten Daele (the original castle of Schelderode). Stables with a coach gate were provided next to the residence. The then pastor, Adrianus Vandamme, received the property on February 2, 1654, as a lease for 99 years, provided he paid an annual fee of two pounds and ten schellings. Due to the right of pre-emption, the rectory was sold in 1752 to Pastor Hendricus Meert. The current rectory building with its barn and stables were built during this period. In 1764, the estate was purchased in the name of the parish by the alderman and churchwarden Pieter Meganck, so that it was free of all leases. Over time, the domain became progressively smaller due to the appropriation of plots of land for the expansion of the cemetery, the construction of a town hall, the widening of the Gaversesteenweg, and the creation of a parking lot.
The property, along with the walled garden, the stables, and the medlar tree, has been a protected monument since February 10, 2000.
