The late medieval "Hof ter Schilde" was in 1571 one of the largest tenant courts (40 ha) of Schelderode and a fief of the lord of Rode. After the feudal era, the farm was inhabited by Jean Baptiste Van Hecke, who was appointed by Napoleon in May 1800 as the first "maire" of Schelderode. The farm combined its activities during the first half of the 19th century with a trade in building materials and with the operation of a transport company. In 1844 it had 6 live-in servants. The partially walled farm remained the property of the Van Hecke family until the end of the 19th century. Of this family, Joseph Van Hecke was mayor of Schelderode between 1853 and 1867. Hector Poriau was the last owner of the farm.
