Parc de la Senne

This first part of Parc de la Senne (2016) was constructed on the former, original course of the Senne and continues on the other side of Rue Masui. This used to be an elongated, derelict area that skirted the backs of old industrial buildings. After the heavily polluted soil had been decontaminated, the promenade was given a light finish in wood and concrete. The playgrounds, picnic areas and community vegetable gardens are there to give a little breathing space to this underprivileged, densely populated neighbourhood. Once completed, Parc de la Senne will form a green corridor stretching 1.6 km from the Quartier Nord to the Royal Domain in Laeken, on the other side of the Canal. Walkers and cyclists will be able to make their way through the district more or less unchecked, hopefully with safer road crossings than is currently the case.
