The church was built by emigrants who had fled the Russian Revolution. They began raising funds in 1928 and were able to lay the foundation stone on February 2, 1936. The architect-painter Nicolai Istselenov was assisted by a committee. The patron saint Saint Job was chosen because his feast day, May 19, coincides with the birthday of Tsar Nicholas II, to whom the church is dedicated. More generally, it was intended to commemorate the suffering of the imperial family and the victims of the revolution.
