This disused limestone quarry, inactive for about fifteen years, is located in the Condroz region of Entre-Sambre-et-Meuse, just a stone's throw from the Eau d'Heure Lakes. It currently hosts various pioneer plant communities, as well as calcareous grasslands and wastelands, and thickets of willows, birches, and spiny plants... A rut in the path features a very interesting floral procession including small rare species such as Eleocharis ovata, Limosella aquatica, and Centaurium pulchellum. At the bottom of the excavation lies a shallow water body colonized by unusual vegetation, including a beautiful stand of bulrush (Schoenoplectus lacustris), a rare plant in the region. Together, they constitute a site of great faunistic interest, particularly entomological (odonates, orthopterans, ...).
Public access: The site is located along the N978 connecting the N5 to the Lakes road. Although largely fenced off for safety reasons (risk of accidents) and to prevent illegal dumping, access is still possible on foot through a turnstile near the entrance gate.
Type: Site of Great Biological Interest (SGIB)
