Located in southern Ardenne, west of the village of Léglise, the Hawa stream is a small tributary of the Léglise stream, a minor watercourse belonging to the Semois basin. Its floodplain is set in a slightly hilly landscape, at an altitude of about 400 m, primarily intended for grazing. It includes a mosaic of wet meadows, acidic fens, herbaceous swamps, willow thickets, and other groves. The site is home to two species of butterflies protected in Wallonia and associated with the same plant: the copper of bistort (Lycaena helle) and the pearl of bistort (Boloria eunomia).
