The Sint-Servatius church of Berg invokes a distant, possibly ascending to the 8th century, with the bishop of Tongeren as patron saint, who died around 450. Since 1142, following a donation from the bishop of Cambrai, the Benedictine abbey of Geraardsbergen held the patronage and a large part of the tithes.
A figurative map by Josse De Deken in the map book of the Brussels Sint-Janshospitaal from 1711 gives a picture of the church of Berg as it was rebuilt after the fire of circa 1640.
It is represented as a late Gothic, single-aisled building with a tower in the middle of a square cemetery with low walls, the entrance of which was situated in the southwest corner.
