Kuurne has traditionally been connected with water. However, the connection with the Leie has been lost over time. Now efforts are being made to make the Leie more visible and tangible again. The Leiemeersen - at the mouth of the Heulebeek into the Leie - is one of the last large open space areas in the Leievallei within the urban area of Kortrijk.
