Pastor De Vleeschouwer, a prisoner of war in World War II, had promised to go on a pilgrimage to La Salette and build this chapel if he could return safely... The original chapel was built in 1961; now Our Lady weeps in a slightly more modern setting.
La Salette is a small village and place of pilgrimage in the French municipality La Salette-Fallavaux, near Grenoble. In the year 1846, there was an apparition recognized by the Catholic Church of Mary to two shepherd children: Melanie Calvat and Maximin Giraud. Our Lady wept for the fate of the world and the end of times...
