SAINT BARBARA'S CHAPEL

According to an archive text referred to in a framed text inside the chapel, the local veneration of Saint Barbara dates back to the beginning of the 16th century and is said to have led to the construction of a chapel on this site. According to inscriptions on the exterior, the chapel, built in 1756, was rebuilt in 1819 by Antoon Van Hoorick. Two bluestone memorial stones at the top of the front of the chapel on either side of the door bear the following inscriptions: on the left: "Dit Kapelle/ eerste Gebouwe/ int Jaer 1756." and on the right: "Vernieuwt en erplaetst/ door den Heer/ Antoon Van Hoornick/ 1819". Restored in 1969 thanks to Henri de Lovinfosse. Neoclassical tinted eight-sided road chapel (on square ground shape with chamfered corners) covered by tent roof (slates and artificial slates),
