Description

A new destination, housing, hospitality, tourism, and plenty of greenery

Through a collaboration between the municipality of Tervuren, project developer ION, and the real estate group PMV, a new purpose has been given to this heritage site. At this unique location, project developer ION will begin construction and restoration works of the 3.7-hectare former barracks Panquin in the spring of 2021. Together with the real estate group PMV, various functions are planned for this unique location. Four apartment buildings will be erected, totaling 107 housing units, a 4-star boutique hotel from the well-known Martin’s hotels with 108 rooms, multifunctional meeting rooms, a bar and restaurant, a spacious terrace, and an underground parking lot, 1,000 square meters of space for services, and a public fringe parking with 80 parking spaces.
The overall project will focus not only on housing but also on hospitality and tourism.

What stands out in the plans is the enormous amount of greenery. In total, around 10,000 square meters of additional green park zone is planned. More than a quarter of the site, which is currently mainly paved. The municipality of Tervuren, together with the Agency for Nature & Forest, will take care of the maintenance. A new pond will be created extending from the ponds of the castle de Robiano and a connection from the Voerpad to the Park of Tervuren. Currently, we have to take a detour along the Duisburgesteenweg to reach the park from the Voerpad.

In addition to the abundant greenery, there is a strong emphasis on sustainability. A geothermal heating network will be established at the Panquin site, which will not only heat the apartments and the hotel in the winter but can also provide cooling in the summer. In this way, the site will use virtually no fossil fuels. Solar panels will be installed on several roofs to ensure that electricity production is as green as possible.

The first residents of the renovated Panquin site can take up residence in 2023. The Martin’s hotel plans to open its doors around the same time.
