These meadows are waiting and grazing pastures for the sheep, which are used here in Drongengoed by Natuurkudde for nature management. From April to November, shepherdess Leen Ricour walks with a flock of more than 200 sheep in these areas to optimize the valuable heathland grasslands, dry heath, and parcels with heather and sundew.
She chooses typical sheep breeds such as Lüneburger heath sheep, Ardennes Voskoppen, and Houtland sheep. These thrive in nutrient-poor areas and eat tougher herbs as well as twigs and young bark. Leen also offers various packages where you can experience the life of a shepherd for a day. During this, you will learn how her sheep contribute to nature restoration and she shows how border collies keep and direct her flock of sheep.
