This poorly designed garden is located at the heart of Cureghem’s so-called textile triangle. In 1975, a Jewish entrepreneur bought a house in the area and started a clothing wholesale business. Others soon followed, and the Jewish wholesalers were then joined by Pakistani and, later, Chinese businesses. In 2013, there were some 90 clothing shops and 30 fashion accessory wholesalers in Rue Brogniez alone. The customers are retailers and market vendors from all over Belgium, the Netherlands and even France. The proximity of Brussels Midi station makes it easy for collections to be brought in from the Le Sentier textile district in Paris. Chinese goods come straight from China, or in many cases via Paris.
