On market days – Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays – there are crowds of people here, both at the surface and underground. Clémenceau metro station was opened in 1993, before the market proved an enormous success. The capacity of the metro platforms can no longer cope with the huge influx of visitors every week. What’s more, there is no exit on the Abattoir site itself, although some recently added extra access gates on Chaussée de Mons should relieve the pressure.
