Liqueurs De Gent is a household name in the Hageland as the longest-existing, still active producer of liqueurs. In 1927 'Toine' De Gent bought the material from André Douwen's Aarschot distillery and installed the production in Betekom. The star product was the 'Kemp'sche Boeren' gin, which can still be found on the shelves today. The more 'burps' on the label, the stronger the drink. The business was doing well and Toine delivered in the area. But it was his son 'Mil' who would make the business big with his unerring taste and put several legendary liqueurs on the market according to the prevailing trends: Elixir De Gent, Goldwasser, Ice Crystal, Honingrhum, ... The customers mainly came to the store, because as Mil testified: 'Good marchandise, then people keep coming. Contented people make for good word-of-mouth advertising.'
Mil passed away in 2018, but the case is still alive and kicking today (in 2021).
