With the inclined plane of Ronquières, the 11 locks that run from Brussels to Charleroi allow boats to cross the ridge line that separates the Scheldt and Meuse basins.
The lock of Anderlecht is the tenth lock of Charleroi. With a length of 81.6 meters and a width of 10.5 meters, boats can reach a height of 3.9 meters and there is room for barges with a tonnage of up to 1350 tons. With each passage of a boat, 3337 cubic meters of water are added or emptied! A few meters from the lock, on the right bank, stands a beautiful brick house in which the lock keeper and his family once lived. Like the Molenbeek lock, the other lock in the Brussels Region, the Anderlecht lock is managed by the Port of Brussels.
