Prosper or prosperdorp is a hamlet of 200 inhabitants that is split in two by the land border. Before 1846 this was a salt marsh and mud area on the banks of the Scheldt. By order of the seventh Duke Prosper Louis of Arenberg, it was diked and the Prosperpolder was created. Around 1870, four large homesteads were responsible for the exploitation of the polder. On the Dutch side, the Duchess Hedwigepolder was built in 1904, named after Hedwige de Ligne, who was married to the grandson of Prosper Lodewijk. Around 1910 the population increased and the construction of the neo-Gothic Sint-Engelbertusker began. Node 70-87.
