Description

* Woestijnbosstraat z.nr. Poelbergmolen, located at the top of the Poelberg, protected as a monument by B.S.G. of 13/01/1943 and included in the village view "Surroundings of the Poelbergmolen", protected by M.B. of 23/07/1993. Also included as a point relic in the namesake anchorage included in the Landscape Atlas. History. The oldest known mention of the Poelbergmolen dates back to 1668. There is no clarification about the year of construction, but it is likely that the current mill was built in 1726, one of the years found on various mill components. The "Poelberghe Meulen" is depicted on the Ferraris map (1770-1778) and on the map of Philip Jan Lemaieur from 1786. The Poelbergmolen was owned for a long time by the family Mulle de Terschueren. After World War II, the mill was repaired from war damage. A thorough restoration took place in 1957. The mill remained in operation until around 1970. When the mill became the property of the city in 1980, it was in a very dilapidated condition. Restoration works began in 1989, making it operational again since 1993. To preserve the openness of the surroundings and the wind capture, the surrounding landscape was protected as a village view in 1993. In 2005, the facility was expanded with a grain cleaner and a small brush mill. Description. Wooden post mill on four white-painted brick foundations, located on a mill site that offers a wide view of the surroundings from the top of the Poelberg. Access via a staircase with beams, walking beams, and a hoist. Vertical siding on the front and sides. Oak shingles on the wind side and on the cap, where two coats of arms are displayed. A regulator protrudes from the roof of the kitchen. Blades with a length of 23.60 meters. Milling floor with oat crusher and stone floor with two millstones. On the claw indicators of the front mill are inscriptions such as "1631", "1844" and "CT". Several weighing belts bear inscriptions: "BESCH/ ERM GODT VOOR ALLE/ LIEN DAN WORT GHY/ GERREN GHESYEN/ EN ALS GHY HYER/ VERLIEST HET LE/ VEN GODT SAL V/ DEN HEMEL GHEVEN/ EN MARIA MET VER/ LANGHEN SAL V/ IN HAR RYCK ONT/ FANGHEN DEN 9 IULIV/ YG/ 1726", "BRAEM IAN 1820 RUMBEKE", "P. DE MEYER/ 1888", "EMILE"/ VANCOMPER/ NOLLE 1890". On the post "CLEMENT BOUTTE IN 1853/ HIER MOLENNAER".
