Place du monument

Called the rose garden at the end of the 19th century , this square bears this name because of the presence in its center of the war memorial, the work of architect Flagothier and sculptor Thys, inaugurated in 1921.

It contains ashes from the crematorium of the Flossenburg concentration camp. The freedom tree is an oak planted on November 22, 1919. It symbolizes, just like the monument, the living desire for peace and freedom that animated the population at the end of the Great War.

Spa is also called the 'Pearl of the Ardennes' . It is a fresh, cozy and leafy town with barely ten thousand inhabitants. Spa is the world capital of mineral water . The English, Americans and Japanese do n't have their own word to describe mineral spring water: they just call it 'Spa'. It has become a household name all over the world. Today, Spa is one of the most important places in the Ardennes and there is plenty to see and do.
