In 2015 and 2016, the phosphate accumulation in the soil along the Blauwhuisbeek parcels was removed by excavating several decimeters of the top layer. This should create development opportunities for flowery, heath-poor grasslands. Heath-poor grasslands are closely related to heath, but differ from it because the dominant species are not dwarf shrubs, but grasses and other herbs with a very high conservation value.
The species that occur in poor grasslands and wet heath, such as blackthorn, heather, and bog myrtle were still present at the edge of the (unmanured) paths. Due to the nature conservation works, they can expand into the parcels themselves. The natural values have also increased due to the creation of ponds.
