Eglise Sainte-Agathe

The current church dates from 1779 and is dedicated to Santa Ágata . It is the third church to be built on this site . A chapel was erected here in 1235 as the first sacred building.

The church has a four-bay nave with a slate roof, decorated on the west with a square turret with an elegant octagonal tower. The altarpiece of the high altar of the church represents the sacrifice of Abraham , the Louis XV style pulpit is decorated with a bas- relief of a good shepherd.

The oak statue of Saint Joseph probably dates from the second half of the 19th century, while the Christ on the Cross, also in oak and in Gothic style, dates from 1570. The colored wood Madonna and Child dates from the end of the 18th century.

The furniture inside was made in 1745 by the sculptor Pierre Delogne (already present in the old church). His son made the pulpit in 1791. The Way of the Cross was painted in charcoal by the painter Jacques Vander Elst.

Dated 1967-68, the ceiling is Louis-Marie Londot's notable work on the theme of Hallelujah. André Lanotte contributed a great deal to the bold and artistic use of colour, of which this church is an example.
