At the end of the Marselaerdreef, near the Kruisheide, the walk crosses the Grote Molenbeek
The Great Molenbeek has a catchment area with an area of 67.55 km2.
It belongs to the Lower Scheldt basin, which is part of the Scheldt basin.
The watercourse flows parallel to the Kleine Molenbeek, from south to north. Both watercourses are barely 1 to 2 kilometres apart.
On the Grote Molenbeek are also the 3 watermills of Londerzeel, the 3 watermills of Merchtem, including the still functioning watermill of Mollem (Asse) on the territory of Brussegem (Merchtem) in the Neerkamstraat. The Ichelgem mill of the Trappenhoeve in Mollem is also located on the Grote Molenbeek.
The flow and water level are monitored in the two automatic measuring stations of the Hydrological Information Centre, one of which is located here.
