Churchyard Sint-Pietersveld Wingene

The small cemetery on the border of Ruiselede and Wingene, which was inaugurated in 1854 as the burial place of the 'Ecole de Réforme de Ruyslede' , was recognized in 2002 as architectural heritage and protected cultural-historical landscape.

In order to upgrade the disused piece of heritage, the Flemish Land Agency already decided in 2017 to redesign the cemetery . The entrance gate and the Calvary chapel will be preserved and 22 tombs with heritage value, including the central funerary monument, will be restored.

The cemetery was used for the burial of directors, staff members and in the early years also the lodgers of the institutions in Ruiselede and Beernem. Before the construction of the cemetery, between 1849 and 1853, the boys of the asylum were buried in the cemetery of Ruiselede. The nearby Veldkapelleke is part of the municipality of Wingene.

Halfway up the path, the neo-Gothic funerary monument of Guillaume Poll, the institution's first director and who died in 1867, stands in the center of the path.
