At the request of the parish priest Peter Coen of Thommen, the construction of this church in Braunlauf was approved by Archbishop Joseph Clemens of Cologne in 1704. Until then, the villagers had to go to Thommen for their church obligations. The chapel was completed two years later. In 1898, it was restored and provided with a sacristy. The church had a western tower. We no longer see that today. The main altar was dedicated to Saint Blaise. When the new church was built a bit further in the village, this building stood empty for many years and fell into disrepair. Today it is a private residence.
