Old town - Bokrijk

Between 1960 and 1973 Bokrijk acquired a number of old town houses from Antwerp .

They were demolished as part of a highly criticized remediation project. On August 30, 1972, the reconstruction of house 'De (Witte) Engel' starts. Until 1989, Bokrijk continued to build the new museum section 'the Old City'.

The city quarter is composed of 15th and 16th century buildings and facades from the Antwerp city center. The original aim was to provide an overview of urban architecture between the 15th and 20th centuries. In addition, this part of the museum had to show that town and countryside have always influenced each other. However, for financial reasons, the ambitious plan was only partially implemented.

Bar Jozef is located in the old town, a rewarding stopover for cyclists after/before cycling through the water.
