Entre 1960 y 1973, Bokrijk adquirió varias casas antiguas de la ciudad de Amberes .
Fueron demolidos como parte de un proyecto de remediación muy criticado. El 30 de agosto de 1972 se inicia la reconstrucción de la casa 'De (Witte) Engel'. Hasta 1989, Bokrijk siguió construyendo la nueva sección del museo 'la Ciudad Vieja'.
El barrio de la ciudad está compuesto por edificios y fachadas de los siglos XV y XVI del centro de la ciudad de Amberes. El objetivo original era ofrecer una visión general de la arquitectura urbana entre los siglos XV y XX. Además, esta parte del museo debía mostrar que la ciudad y el campo siempre se han influido mutuamente. Sin embargo, por razones financieras, el ambicioso plan solo se implementó parcialmente.
Bar Jozef está ubicado en el casco antiguo, una parada gratificante para los ciclistas antes o después de andar en bicicleta por el agua.
