2. Vocational school court

This former 19th century textile site (Janssens family) was expanded at the beginning of the 20th century into a vocational and craft school (the VTS). In 2008, the city bought the site and appointed Interwaas to develop it, together with architectural firm Nero, into a car-free residential area, with space for culture and leisure (classrooms for the music academy, Van Wilderodezaal, depot and workshop spaces De Zagerij and De Smederij). Through the former playgrounds, now 3 green high-quality squares with a water feature and benches, you end up in the shopping loop. Vakschoolhof became a new safe passage for many pedestrians and cyclists between the OLV square and the culture and school site.
