Deze voormalige 19de eeuwse textielsite (familie Janssens) werd begin 20ste eeuw uitgebouwd tot een vak- en ambachtschool (de VTS). In 2008 kocht de stad de site en stelde Interwaas aan om het samen met architectenbureau Nero te ontwikkelen tot een autovrij woonerf, met ook ruimte voor cultuur en vrije tijd (klaslokalen voor de muziekacademie, Van Wilderodezaal, depot- en workshopruimtes De Zagerij en De Smederij). Via de vroegere speelplaatsen, nu 3 groene kwaliteitsvolle pleintjes met een waterpartij en zitbanken, belandt je in de winkelwandellus. Vakschoolhof werd voor vele voetgangers en fietsers een nieuwe veilige doorsteek tussen het OLV-plein en de cultuur- en schoolsite.
