18. Cardinal Cardijn Avenue

The Cardinal Cardijnlaan is being developed as the street of the future, thus a pilot project for our city. On top of the construction of a separate sewage system, the street appearance will also change drastically, with water buffers, wide ditches, and plenty of greenery. The section between Pater Segersstraat and Schongaustraat will be a residential area with one-way traffic for motorized vehicles. In the grassy area, play and rest areas will be provided, and some intersections will be designed as small squares. On a four-meter wide, zigzagging concrete path through the green park landscape, it is the pedestrians and cyclists who dictate the speed.
