Myn Landekyn ter Eere - Bruges station

Beschrijving

“Myn Landekyn ter Eere” is a mural that adorns the eastern, southern and western walls of the entrance hall of the Bruges station.

On the two long sides of the entrance hall of the station, the eastern and western walls, the painting occupies a band about two meters high. Here the scene is painted directly on the plastered wall.

On the south wall is the largest and the main part. Here the painting is mounted on separate panels, all of which are mounted on the southern wall. More than half of this wall is occupied by the performance. The painting on this wall consists of 56 panels that together account for 90 m².

The painting was realized in 1939 by painter René De Pauw. He worked on it for over a year.

The central main panel shows the coastal strip between the coast and Bruges, over the full length of the North Sea from Knokke on the left to De Panne on the right. The great panorama of this wall represents the countryside, the cities, the inhabitants, the activities, the specialties… of the coastal strip. The cities are depicted in gold as centers of life and culture. While all the golden residential areas of Damme, Oostkerke, Westkapelle, Lissewege, Gistel, Torhout, Ypres, Veurne, Nieuwpoort and the various seaside resorts of the coast are painted directly on the panels, Bruges is painted on a separate wooden panel. This panel is screwed on top of underlying panels. Bruges is the largest golden residential core. The waterways such as the Damse vaart, the Stinker and the Blinker, the Boudewijnkanaal, the Ostendse vaart, the Blankenbergse vaart, the Plassendaalse vaart, the Yser and the canal to Dunkirk are light veins that cut through the countryside and connect the cities with each other and with each other. connect the sea. The entire panel is strewn with people, animals, buildings, objects... Downstairs right, René De Pauw is sitting at his easel, painting the canvas “Myn Landekyn in honor” in the open countryside .

The provinces of East Flanders, Antwerp, Brabant and Limburg are represented on the western and eastern walls over a band of approximately two meters in height. On the eastern wall, the southern provinces of Hainaut, Namur and the Ardennes are shown in their entirety to the viewer.
