Chateau de Mozet

This old limestone castle, which has been the seat of a seigneury since the 14th century , stands on a hill near the village centre.

Once surrounded by moats, this quadrangle has undergone several transformations and restorations over the centuries. Only the north side , flanked by two round towers, is original . A colonnade, with an arched portal on posts with chains, gives access to the castle.

On the upper floor, which was rebuilt in brick in the 18th century, you can still see the hidden slides of the old drawbridge . At the top of the rebuilt arched gate in the courtyard, a pigeon exit is placed on quarter round brackets.
On the courtyard side, the broad facade of the main building reveals different construction periods. To the east, the anomalous stonework, thickness of the walls and ancient corner joints suggest the remains of a medieval keep . The main building with a slate roof and wooden cornice and the eastern and western wings owe their current appearance to extensive renovations in the 19th century.
