Old city wall Dry-Les-Wennes - Dinant

In the Middle Ages, Dinant was a rich and powerful city that very soon built a huge ring of walls that required the construction of numerous towers and gates . The city wall is already mentioned in 1239 g .

The fortified site of Dry-les- Wennes may have been built in the 13th century .

To the north of the city, on the site of Dry-les- Wennes , the walls extend along the rue Saint-Pierre at the level of the Athénée Royal and end at the top of the valley of the rue Saint-Jacques. They stretch from north to south in the middle of the right side of the valley, following the relief of the rock. The remains consist of a continuous perimeter wall, 450 m long and signposted at regular intervals; a large heptagonal tower (Torre Taravisée) and four very well preserved towers.
