The Liège Bridge is the first construction over the Semois.
Its construction was necessary as early as 1069 to ensure the passage of the important trade route between Verdun and Liège . It was destroyed several times by ice drift. We had to wait until 1598 for a stone building , which Vauban reinforced in 1680 with a defensive structure on the left bank. In 1778 it was rebuilt.
The bridge was then called Oude Brug (Old Bridge) . The charm of this bridge was enhanced in 1939 with the installation of two impressive statues on the right bank. One in memory of Godfried van Bouillon and the other dedicated to Saint Arnoldus.
Now we find the statue of Godfrey de Bouillon at the foot of the castle, the other is on the slope "Auclin".
The new bridge dates from 1951.
