The work of art " Ibis Boy " was created by sculptor Bernard Vandenberghe and placed on a platform on the outermost part of the country between the Bruges-Ostend canal and the North Ede.
The bronze sculpture is a cabin boy, leaning on a flat knot , as a sign of the connection with the sea and society. It was unveiled in 2006 on the occasion of the centenary of the Royal Work Ibis.
Ibiskindedren are orphans from sea fishing.
After the outbreak of the First World War, all Ibis boys had returned to their families. The Ibis building was not yet there and for twenty orphans who then remained behind on the ship lying in the canal, there was no solution. They fled headlong with supervisors and the director. The evacuation took place two days before Ostend fell into German hands.
