The Wedelse Molen is an undershot mill , located on the river Dommel.
The name Wedel refers to a watery environment after a flood.
The history of the mill is said to date back to the 8th century according to some sources. It might be the oldest watermill on the Dommel, and possibly even the oldest watermill in the entire Benelux , but this cannot be confirmed by archaeological finds.
In 1259 the mill was sold to Floreffe Abbey by Count Arnold IV van Loon. The mill was rebuilt in 1765 . The mill house of loam was replaced by the current building. In 1953 the Breugelweg was widened , so that the baking house was lost and in 1955 the wooden mill wheel was replaced by a metal wheel. The mill was in operation until 1957. In 1974 a tavern was set up in the mill. Since 1980, the mill has been used again as a converter from hydropower to electricity.
In the tavern you can still clearly see the working of the wheels .
