Castle PEEREBOOMVELD, a neoclassical gem of Bruges, was first mentioned in the 17th century as a pavilion. In 1835, there was mention of a surrounding estate with forest and heath and a playhouse, which was expanded in 1852, 1873, and 1889 by various private owners. By the end of the 19th century, the estate came into the hands of Emmanuel van Outryve d’Ydewalle, who had the castle renovated and beautified. The castle, which is situated on a natural height, is surrounded by an 8 ha park, designed in English landscape style, and is still inhabited by the van Outryve d’Ydewalle family.
Two long avenues connect it to the Torhoutsesteenweg. The castle itself has an L-shaped floor plan, with terraces on both sides lined with natural stone balustrades and crowned with vases. A double house façade, five bays, and two building levels under a mansard roof, covered with slates and equipped with imposing chimneys and elegant wooden dormer windows.
