In station neighborhoods with heavy foot traffic, you often encounter a different kind of transactions. In Aarschotstraat and several streets around it, sex workers offer their services in windows and squares (ground floors of residential buildings). A raw reality with a lot of conflicts, often exacerbated by the very different approaches between the neighboring municipalities of Schaarbeek and Sint-Joost. The municipality of Schaarbeek allows facades to be renovated and has a prostitution regulation. A prostitution officer organizes discussions between advocacy groups of sex workers and the police. Sint-Joost would rather be rid of prostitution and has not invested in the neighborhood for a long time.
