This renovated square has an elegant curve of 55 meters long benches that meanders between the trees. They give the historic square a contemporary atmosphere.
On this square there is an old stone paving stone with the letter "P" engraved on it. It is located in the middle of Bas Quartier square, in the historic center of the city. When this square was transformed into a pedestrian area in the 1980s, it was decided to preserve this specific element. There were many stories going around about this mysterious stone. For example, it would be the indication for an underground well. However, according to a geography professor, this stone was supposed to indicate a zero point . This is how people used to designate the markers - often placed in the central geographic location of different cities - to measure the distances that separate them. This measuring system was introduced here during the Dutch period, around 1820.
House number 8 has a contemporary facade inspired by the moucharabiehs of the Maghreb .
