Tour d'Oultremont - Huy

The tower should not be confused with the hospice of Oultremont, which also has a tower and is located next to the collegiate church of Notre-Dame de Huy.

This tower is the last remnant of the mansion of the Counts of Oultremont, which was demolished during major road works in the last years of the 19th century. As a result of this partial demolition, certain materials were replaced and the openings were modified. The pentagonal tower has since been attached to a late 19th century building.

It consists of a corbelled base and several floors in brick and limestone marked by horizontal bands under a bulbous roof with a slightly overhanging upper floor.

A plaque with Oultremont's coat of arms adorns the facade, above a cartouche with the date 1559 . The bays, which vary in number from one side to the other, are Gothic in design with lintels with brackets. This model also frames the openings in the three-story building next to the tower. They are particularly detailed here, with motifs of human heads. The entrance door and the dormer window in the slate roof are a copy of 16th-century models.
