The Lagae family was present in political circles in the 19th century and has a total career of 67 years as mayor. After that, mayor Goethals moved into the house. The eclectic castle with French landscape garden took shape more and more. From 1964 to 2001, the municipal services were housed in this building. The Heulebeek and the 4.6 meter high 'Streuvelsteken' meanders through the public park, as a symbol of the tragedy from the work of Stijn Streuvels who first saw the sunlight here in Heule.
The gloriëtte in the park in Heule is the base for De Parkiet, a place where local residents, passers-by, groups of friends, families, associations, etc. can go to 'play'. People of all ages can also borrow games for a nice afternoon in the park. De Parkiet provides 'quieter' games that you can play on a bench, on a picnic blanket or table and also more active games where you find a spot in the park. They focus on engagement by volunteers to keep De Parkiet open. They also make games themselves with a wink to the history of Heule.
