Beyond the meadow lies one of the largest reed fields in the Brussels region. This is home to many birds that love marshy areas: great blue heron, moorhen, snipe,... The snipe is a migratory wading bird with a distinctive zigzag flight. It is easily recognizable by its long (7 cm) straight bill. Its striped plumage is mainly brown, black, and cream-colored. Here it is gradually becoming a rare sight because its habitat is disappearing. So it’s best to leave it alone! (Photo © W. Poelman)
Also impressive willows dominate the landscape here. The bark of this tree with its spear-shaped leaf was once used - in decoction and infusion - for its properties similar to those of aspirin.
