Sus Eyskens: the casanova of Lier

On the corner building in Lantaarnstraat, the text 'Herberg De Paardendrink' recalls one of the regulars: Sus Eyskens, who was referred to as the 'Casanova' of Lier. Sus, a relative of politician Gaston Eyskens, rented out carriages like coaches and carts for weddings, funerals, and communions. Apparently, he was a handsome man who had much success with women. When he entered a café, all the men would alarmingly move a bit closer to their wives. He also liked to boast about his conquests.

Once, he got into a conversation with the skipper of a mussel boat. It led to a proposal. 'For a bucket of mussels, I might as well have them in my horse-stable tonight, it's hardly seen how they should do with nice ladies,' said Sus. The skipper saw Sus in the hay giving it with not one, but two women at the same time. The skipper was quite impressed and therefore gave Sus not one but two buckets of mussels.
