Little chapel The Butcher's shop - Wingene

This small chapel hangs against the facade of 't Beenhouwerietje .

Inside is a mother and child . The chapel gives the impression of being very new (2025).

The word chapel is derived from the Latin cappa = cloak, diminutive capella, and refers to the cloak of Saint Martin , Bishop of Tours. Saint Martin gave away half his cloak to a poor person, the half cloak became a relic and the room in which the cloak was kept was called by metonymy capella or chapel. From the 7th century onwards, chapel became a name for a (small) house of worship.
